Lie No. 5: God's Ways Are Too Restrictive

When Adam and Eve were placed in the garden, they were given ONE restriction, and it was that one restriction that Satan caused Eve to focus on and question. In "Lies Women Believe", DeMoss questions the issue of food among so many women and points out that the first sin ever committed was the sin of overeating. God told Eve she could eat anything in the garden except one single fruit, and that tiny restriction was too much to handle.

One woman shares her testimony in this book about her struggle with food and states:

"When I understood that true freedom comes from obedience, I was freed from bondage to food- I lost sixty-five pounds, as well as the depression I had experienced." p. 56

DeMoss shares this insight on page 55 of her book:

"The Scripture teaches that God's laws are for our good and our protection. Obedience is the pathway to freedom. But Satan places in our minds the idea that God's laws are burdensome, unreasonable, and unfair, and that if we obey Him we will be miserable."

Oh how Satan would love for us to believe that lie, and sadly, so many of us have. Our world screams at us that the most important thing is to do whatever will make us happy and to live the life we want, when in reality, it is obedience to God's laws that will bring us the ultimate peace, contentment, joy, and fulfillment. Everything else leads only to despair and death.

"And the Lord our God commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear him so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives, as he has done to this day. For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us." Deuteronomy 6:24-25 (emphasis mine)
